Weight Loss: The Truth About Calories and Their Affect

For a long time now, calories have been the ‘it’ word when it comes to discussing weight loss, and is often bandied about there and there throughout related resources. Many people however don’t fully understand what calories are, and this leads to a lot of further problems and misunderstandings.

At the end of the day, calories are simply this: A measure of energy. More importantly however, they are a measurement of units of energy that are gained by your body consuming various types of food.

So when someone says that a certain dish contains 120 calories, what they’re really saying is that that dish, when consumed, can provide 120 units of a certain measure of energy.

Mind you, the quantity or exact amount of that energy isn’t the important thing, and so you don’t need to get any more in depth into the science of calories than that, but just knowing that it is a relative measure is more than enough.

Now that you do know that though, it is important to note that depending on the type of food, the calorie content may vary. Largely, this is because different components within the food carry a different ‘weight’ of calories per gram. For example, proteins and carbohydrates contain 4 calories per gram, whereas alcohol contains 7 and fats contain 9.

Needless to say, this means that food with a lot of fat is going to provide you with more energy, which seems to be a good thing, but as you know, really isn’t.

To understand the relationship between calories and weight loss though, you need to realize one important thing: When the body can’t use up all the energy that it has gained through food, it doesn’t just get rid of it, but rather, your body will store that energy.

And energy is stored in the form of fat.

So due to this, every time you’re consuming too much energy for your body to handle, you’re going to be storing the excess in the form of fat. These energy reserves, as they are, end up accumulating, and before long, you’ve put on more weight than you want to.

It is also worth noting at this stage that some types of food, more specifically, some type of fats, are more likely to be stored than others. Trans fats, for example, are notoriously bad and end up being stored very easily.

Bottom line: Calories are a good tell tale sign to count whether or not you’re consuming more energy than your body needs, and thus storing it as fat. Also, calories can be used to help you cut down on the amount of energy you’re consuming, and hence storing.

Due to this relationship between energy and fat, you can easily see the numerous ways in which you could put this information to use. Once you do that, you should have no trouble sorting out a diet program that will help you to lose weight well!

Healthy Weight Loss 101: Finding Out How to Best Go About It

When practically anyone starts to think about losing weight, the very first port of call that they often resort to is the most famous one: Dieting.

In reality, all that dieting really involves is cutting down on your food intake. Or at least, that is the simple view of it. Truth be told, there’s more to effective dieting than simply cutting down on food, or worse, starving yourself, and if you want the best results you’re going to need to know more.

Otherwise, you may or may not lose weight, and chances are, you’ll end up facing a slew of other health problems too.

For quick and healthy weight loss, you need to remember that your body requires food to survive for two main purposes, both of which are of crucial importance and neither of which can be ignored:

1.	Energy from food is required by the body to go about its daily routine

2.	Nutrients from food are required by the body for various other purposes and bodily functions

Should you cut down on your food intake and not gain sufficient energy, you’ll find yourself feeling lethargic. And should you not get enough nutrients, you’ll also have various other problems with your health – some of which could even be very serious.

So in order to lose weight healthily, you don’t just want to cut back entirely on your food. Instead, you want to choose exactly what types of food you should cut back on, and what types you don’t.

For example, you can safely cut out chocolate sundaes from your daily diet, but you shouldn’t cut out any leafy, green, vegetables.

While you’re doing this, you’ll also find that you’re able to really start losing weight more effectively too. By differentiating between what you ‘can’ and ‘can’t’ cut down on, you should be eliminating the more unhealthy parts of your diet, i.e. the ones with the most calories.

Once you do cut down on your calorie intake itself, your body will then automatically start to work through its ‘stores’ of energy, i.e. fat, and thus you’ll be able to lose weight convincingly while still eating healthily.

Truth is that eating a balanced and healthy diet is really the best thing that you could do when it comes to weight loss, so be sure to look up all the different nutrients and be certain that you’re getting enough of them.

Then, try to keep your calorie count to a minimum, while still maintaining your nutrient intake.

Frankly, this is the key to healthy weight loss – limiting your calories, but not risking your body’s health while you do so. Of course, you can further enhance your results through other methods, such as exercise, but this healthy diet should always be at the core of your efforts.

Trust us, if you follow this method of weight loss, you should end up not only losing weight, but feeling better and healthier all round too!

Losing Weight Made Fast and Easy With Proper Goals

Getting started with weight loss is never the easiest thing in the world. Not only are there numerous challenges that you’ll have to face, both psychologically and physically, but the fact of the matter is that there are also so many options around that it could be troublesome figuring out where to start.

Truth is: The best place to start is by deciding what exactly you desire.

To put it in a way that is easier for you to appreciate, when you first start out you’re undoubtedly going to have a thousand different things to think about all at once. As such, what you need to do before thinking about anything else is really sit down and ask yourself what you’re trying to achieve.

This would be your very first step towards developing some proper goals, but when you start out, you might only have a very rough idea of what you want. Definitely, you want to lose some weight, but how much? Do you have an idea in terms of weight itself, i.e. 30 pounds or would you rather go by waistline in inches?

Really, your goal can be in almost any terms you desire it to be, but the important thing is that you try to put figures to it if possible. Reason being, if you do put figures to it, you’ll have an easy way of measuring your progress, and determining how effective the methods you use are.

Apart from that one ‘main’ goal though, that is your ultimate target, it would also be helpful for you to set numerous other ‘mini goals’ along the way, and put a time period to each of them.

For example, if you wanted to lose 30 pounds within 6 months, you could set yourself the fairly undemanding target of losing 5 pounds per month. That way, you’ll have something to work against each and every month, rather than simply one final target that could seem to be a long way off.

By doing this, you’ll find that you’re less likely to procrastinate, and more likely to achieve that one final goal too.

Of course, the only real prerequisite that your goals need to fill is the fact that they should be challenging, but at the same time realistic. Goals that aren’t challenging are likely to get you no where, as you’ll constantly be putting them off knowing that you could achieve them with ease.

Similarly, goals that are unrealistic are going to be impossible for you to achieve and will likely just discourage you.

If you can find the balance between the two though, you’ll have exactly the type of goals that will keep you motivated, as well as give you a rewarding sense of achievement when you complete them.

End of the day, losing weight is definitely a battle, but by setting up goals the way we’ve outlined, it’s going to be one that you’re more likely to win!

Finding the Keys to Weight Loss in Cardiovascular Exercise

Constantly people who want to lose weight are told that they should start exercising. That much is certainly true, but unfortunately most people with no prior experience with exercise routines will find that they have no idea of where they should start, or what they should be doing.

In its own right, this can lead to many other problems, and could even leave you feeling discouraged at your lack of progress even when you have been trying to get started with various forms of exercise.

While it is true that any exercise is better than no exercise, it is also true that for weight loss in particular, some types of exercises work a lot better than others. So instead of wasting your time on what doesn’t work, how about you do what does: Cardiovascular exercises!

Time and time again, cardiovascular exercises (or aerobic exercises, as they’re otherwise known) have been shown to help tremendously with weight loss. Generally speaking, these types of exercises encompass anything that gets your heart rate up, and covers a wide variety of exercises from walking, jogging, and running right on to rowing, and even aerobics itself.

So as you can see, there is certainly no shortage of options.

Depending on the shape that you’re in prior to beginning, you might want to start off with something light, and then slowly build up the intensity of your workouts. If you’ve led a fairly sedentary lifestyle, this will definitely be the case, and you could start off with brisk walks before graduating on to jogging and then finally running.

No matter what type of exercise you pick, you should try to keep to 20 minute workouts anything between 5 to 7 days a week. Some may even recommend 40 minute workouts, but to start out with 20 minutes is certainly fine.

Do remember to be regular about your workouts though. As you workout regularly, your fitness level will generally improve, but skipping sessions here and there will mean that this improvement will come a lot slower than it otherwise would.

When you workout in this fashion, you end up burning a lot of calories, which basically means you’re expending your body’s energy and forcing it to tap into those fat stores of energy that it has. Therefore you’re quite literally going to be burning through fat, which is the entire purpose of the exercise to begin with.

In time, you’ll find that continuous and regular cardiovascular workouts can help you to achieve everything that you want to in terms of weight loss. Of course, it is going to be a bit of a battle to start out with, but eventually you’ll find that you honestly feel better after workouts than you did before, and that will make you feel like working out more.

Without a doubt, the key to weight loss is cardiovascular exercise, and now that you know exactly what to do, all that remains is for you to go out and get started!

Encouraging Faster Weight Loss and a Trimmer Build with Weight Training

Although it is commonly held that the best way to exercise for weight loss is to start off with cardiovascular exercises, the truth is that it is not the only option you have. Certainly, the increased heart rate helps to burn through fat unlike any other type of exercise, but there are other options that offer different, yet equally appealing advantages.

Let’s face it, the reason most of us want to lose weight is to look good. A lean and trim build is very much desirable, and most of us would do anything to look like a model and appeal to the opposite sex.

And yes, losing weight is the path to looking that way, but your body is built in a way that losing weight alone is not the only thing that you can do to look better. Part of the reason that models look so good is the fact that they have no fat on their bodies, and have some muscle to support their flesh.

Building up your muscles, and toning into shape, will give your body the form that you desire most. Not only that, but it will also ‘support’ whatever fat remains a lot better, meaning that you’ll actually end up looking better much faster than if you were just trying to lose weight.

Furthermore, weight training in itself is a legitimate form of weight loss exercise, and going about it will mean that you’re working your muscles and burning calories too. Admittedly, you won’t be burning as many calories during the workouts themselves, but the benefits of weight training are in many ways more longstanding than simple cardiovascular exercises.

Because you’re working your muscles to their limit, you’ll find that even after your exercise routine, your body is actually burning more calories than it normally would for hours afterwards.

On top of this, the extra muscle that you build up will mean that your body is expending more energy on a regular basis in order to perform even ordinary movements, which will also mean that you’re burning more calories in your everyday life than you normally would.

For people with low metabolism rates, this is something that is definitely beneficial as it will aid your weight loss even more than cardiovascular exercises would.

In fact, the only downside really is that initially, before you start losing a lot of weight, the extra bulk might make you look bigger than before. Still, in the long run, it is a small sacrifice when you compare it to the long term gains that you might achieve.

Honestly at the end of the day the choice is yours, but at some point or other you should consider the option of weight training so that you’re able to achieve that stunning body that you probably long for.

And once you do, you should be able to keep that body a lot more easily than otherwise.

Discover the Best Way to Lose Weight and Fit into a Smaller Sized Pair of Pants

Whenever anyone starts taking up weight loss, their primary goals tend to be focused on the types of clothes they can wear. In many ways, this is natural. After spending so much time wearing oversized clothes because of the extra bulk you’re carrying, who wouldn’t long to be able to fit into something figure hugging that doesn’t make you look tubby?

But the truth is that being able to fit into a smaller sized pair of pants isn’t about just losing weight.

Truth is, your body shape and your weight do relate to each other, but not as much as many people think. That’s why two people who are the same height can have similar weights but drastically different body shapes. One would look fat, while the other may look lean and mean.

What makes this difference so large? Well for one thing muscle weighs more than fat but occupies a lot less space, and on top of that it also adds ‘tone’ to the shape of the body and makes it look a whole lot better.

So even carrying three pounds of muscle is going to look a lot less ‘bulky’ than a single pound of fat.

Keeping this fact in mind, you should be able to realize that the best way to lose weight and fit into a smaller sized pair of pants is not just to lose weight alone, but rather to replace that weight with actual lean muscle.

By doing so, you’ll find that the muscle that you build is going to be able to support any extra weight you’re carrying a lot better, giving you a more ton toed look. Also, the extra support will mean that you’re able to fit into clothes that are a couple of sized smaller, and not have to worry so much about looking bad in them.

Combining weight loss with muscle-building exercises is also going to up your metabolism rate, because you’re now going to be using more energy in pretty much everything you do. That way, you’ll actually help to accelerate your weight loss process and be able to enjoy better results a lot faster.

Furthermore, these results will be a lot longer lasting, so you won’t find that you have to go up a few sizes after a few months of relaxing your routine just a little.

Remember this, and apply it to your weight loss routine. Combine both types of exercises, and within a short span of time you’ll start to see results. Sure, the extra muscle bulk might be slightly off-putting at first, but just keep at it and you’ll notice what an amazing difference it makes in the long run.

When you’re able to fit into a pair of pants that are not just one, but two or three sizes down, you’ll definitely appreciate just how well this method of losing weight works.

Lose the Love Handles in a Few Simple Steps

Despite the fact that they’re ever so fondly referred to as ‘love handles’, you probably don’t love much about them, and no doubt you’d be more than happy to be rid of them as fast as you possibly can.

Unfortunately, even after months and months of exercising, you might find that while the rest of your body is a lot leaner, your love handles seem to be as ever present as they always were. In fact, a common complaint is that they now look even more prominent because the rest of your body has slimmed down but they’re just as they always have been.

If you’re interested in losing the love handles, then you needn’t hire a personal trainer or even hit the gym really. And you certainly don’t need to start taking various drugs that promise to help you do that either.

All you need is the right approach.

As you probably expect, you would want to start carrying out exercises that focus almost exclusively on your mid-section, i.e. the abdomen. Sure, you could do other exercises that are more generally focused, but to definitively tackle your love handles you’ll want to focus exclusively on them.

Not that this means you have to invest a lot of time on extensive exercises. Rather, a simple 20-minute a day routine should be more than enough for you to tackle even the most stubborn of love handles!

Normally, the starting point of most of these exercises involve crunches or sit ups, which are the most common form of abdominal exercises. However, both these forms of exercise focus more on the front of your abdomen, which isn’t the real problem area as far as love handles are concerned anyway.

Instead, what you’re interested in are the sides of your stomach, where the flabby excess fat tends to collect.

One of the simplest exercises for this part of your body is to stand straight with your feet a shoulder’s breadth apart to start with. Then, bend your body to the side as far as it will go without flexing your knees. After that, simply repeat it for the other side.

When you do this, you should feel the side muscles of your abdomen working. If you don’t, then it’s a sign that you either aren’t stretching enough, or are just not doing it right. Repeat this one exercise for a few minutes, and you should find that you’re able to work those muscles well.

Get started with three sets of 20 repetitions each. That should be enough to start firming up the muscles on your side, and soon enough you’ll find your love handles start to shrink.

Easy enough isn’t it? Well, why don’t you go and start trying it right now (if you haven’t already). One of the best things about this method is that you can do it anywhere, anytime, and any place, so you really don’t have to worry about how you’re going to fit it into your schedule.

Have you heard of a weight loss diary before? If you haven’t, don’t dismiss it outright because it could be the simplest way for you to lose weight.

Everyday, numerous people wake up and decide that they want to drop a few pounds. However, few people actually end up doing anything about it for several reasons including the fact that they’re entirely too busy or don’t know where to start.

Others do start, but quickly give up as they find that they simply can’t find the time or the motivation to keep going.

While it may seem like an overly simple solution to what is a very complicated problem, having a weight loss diary really can help you address all of these issues.

Admittedly, a weight loss diary isn’t going to magically help you to free up time. Indeed, all it really consists of is a daily diary in which you can record:

1.	Your calorie intake, and

2.	Any exercises you performed

Most people don’t know the calorie intake of food offhand, so writing down the food that you eat and then looking it up later is probably going to be the best idea, to start off with anyway. Similarly, some exercises are easy to measure in terms of calories burned, while others are less so.

On top of that information, the final type of figures that you should keep record of is your weight.

To many people, recording information like this would seem to be a waste of time, but it can help in so many ways. For one thing, it is a commitment – just as you have made a commitment to weight loss, and keeping to this commitment will help you keep to your commitment regarding weight loss too!

Furthermore, it is actually a valuable motivational tool that can keep you going, especially when you have all your achievements recorded and there for you to go over.

But the true strength of weight loss diaries lies in their use as a tool to help you achieve even better results. Because you end up having all the data you need recorded on paper, you’ll be able to go over it and see for yourself what works for you and what doesn’t seem to help you at all.

As such, you should be able to optimize your weight loss efforts, and really make the most out of the time that you spend on it.

Considering that you probably have a busy schedule, this is going to be essential if you want to lose weight in the fastest and most time-effective way possible. In fact, it seems almost silly if you don’t keep a diary, doesn’t it?

All said and done, it is your decision, but the case for keeping a weight loss diary couldn’t be any stronger than it already is really. Start one, and find out for yourself what a valuable tool one simple book can be!

Debunking the Top 4 Myths of Weight Loss

Part of the reason why many find losing weight to be an uphill battle is simply the fact that there is a lot of misleading information out there. How many times have you read a resource about how to lose weight only to find that it directly contradicts something that you just read a few minutes before that?

All these pieces of misleading information end up causing a lot of misconceptions, and these in turn just serve to muddle the entire issue. So right here and right now, let’s cut through all the unwanted and unneeded myths, so that you’re better able to lose weight in the best way possible!

1.	Weight Loss Needs to be Complicated

Contrary to popular belief, there is nothing complicated about weight loss. In fact, the only reason it is viewed as complicated is because there is a lot of misinformation out there that could make it appear to be so.

Really, some of the simplest programs for weight loss often turn out to be the most effective, due to the fact that they have very few ‘frills’ and ‘unneeded extras’ to just complicate the issue while providing no clear cut benefits.

2.	Crash Diets Are the Best Way to Lose Weight Fast

Next up: Crash diets, or ‘fad diets’ as they’re otherwise known. Every so often, people encounter the latest crash diet that is essentially a spin off of all the previous ones, with a couple of extras thrown in to make it unique.

Almost all of these don’t work, and if they do, their results are often reversible and any weight that you lose will end up coming back, sometimes with a vengeance.

3.	All Fat is Bad For You

While it is true that fat contains more calories, and certain types of fat are more likely to be stored as, well, fat, this doesn’t mean that you need to avoid them completely. In fact, fats are more likely to help you feel ‘full’ faster, and thus stop you from overeating.

Only certain types of fats, i.e. trans fats, are really bad for you, and so avoiding all fat is definitely not something worth doing.

4.	To Diet You Need to Measure Every Calorie Consumed and Burnt

Again, this is completely untrue. Dieting is about cutting calories, yes, but you don’t need to be precise and account for every last calorie in the food you eat. Neither do you need to calculate exactly how many calories you burn.

Instead, so long as you’re eating a healthy and wholesome diet, while still keeping your calorie count as low as you can, you’ll be fine.

Now that you know that all these four myths are exactly that – myths, you should be able to see that weight loss really isn’t about complicated diet programs or designer diet pills. All you need is some knowledge, and the will to see a simple program through to its finish and you should find that you’re losing weight better than ever before!

Weight Loss: Toning Up Thighs to Develop Killer Legs

Apart from the belly area, one other area that overweight people constantly have problems getting into shape is located just a little below it. That’s right – it’s your thighs and they’re as tough to handle as your tummy can be.

Truth is, fat thighs are just as much of a ‘problem spot’ as the stomach, mostly because most people have no idea how to handle them. But seeing as you can’t really develop the kind of killer legs you undoubtedly want to have without working on them, you definitely need to start trying.

And right here, right now, you’re about to discover just how you can go about doing just that.

For starters, it is important to realize that your thighs are not just made up of a single muscle. Therefore, while some activities can help most of your thighs, most actually end up leaving out some spots, most notably the inner thighs themselves.

So while you might be doing a lot of exercises involving your legs, you could find that your thighs never look the way that you want them to, all because your inner thighs are still left with excess fat accumulated there.

Some of the best exercises for your thighs in general therefore are the ones that are all inclusive, and thus tackle as many thigh-centered muscles as possible in a single exercise.

One of these is something that you may be familiar with: Lunges. In a ‘lunge’, you first stand straight with your feet slightly apart, and then place one foot firmly forward and begin to lower your body downwards by bending the forward foot’s knee. Then, you simply repeat the same for the other foot.

While you’re doing a lunge, you should feel your inner thigh stretch, and also feel your outer thigh being stretched too. If you want to up the intensity, you could hold dumbbells while you do so, and thus increase the weight that you’re lunging with.

All by itself, this exercise should help you to firm up your thigh muscles, and will definitely help you to start developing those killer legs you long for.

In addition to lunges, you can try a number of other exercises, including some aerobic ones such as running and even climbing stairs. The latter of these two definitely helps all your thigh muscles, but it can be pretty demanding for someone who is just starting out on an exercise routine.

Now that you know the rough type of exercise that you’ll need to tone up your thighs, you should have little problem beginning to focus on them. Of course, you’ll want to do this in tandem with other weight loss efforts, otherwise your results will be slow to show.

All it takes is a few minutes spent every day, and you could be looking at some great shaped legs in the mirror pretty soon!
